Outdoor games for mom and baby*
As September approaches, the weather outside is getting cooler and more pleasant. Take advantage of these wonderful moments with your little sweetheart and spend time outside!
Children love exploring and they could spend hours just touching the grass or leaves and rocks. If that isn’t your child’s cup of tea, you can always visit the many playgrounds and have fun. It’s a great way to meet other children or engage in different activities – like swinging and sliding, and so on.
Follow that bubble!
This is a super easy, fun and cheap way to have an afternoon full of fun! And who doesn’t love bubbles? We know we do! Blow the bubbles and send your child to pop them. Try to send them off slower, if you think your child needs more time or is still learning to walk. The best part of this game is that if you haven’t got a bottle of bubbles with you, you can make it at home! You’ve probably done this as a child, but in case you haven’t – mix soap and water and blow through a straw. Voila – endless hours of fun for you and baby!
Baby obstacle course sounds about right!
As the name suggests, this game requires your child to walk or crawl. Other than that, it’s very easy! Set up objects for him to interact with – boxes, balls, hoops, tunnels and his favorite toys. Challenge the kid to follow your directions – for example, “bring me the teddy bear and go through the tunnel”. Keep it simple, but be as creative as you want – the possibilities are endless!
Stroll around together!
While this isn’t a game per se, it’s still a wonderful and fun way to bond with your child. Spending mornings with your loved one and doing what you love is a sure way to feel great. If you’re new to running, you can alternate it with casual strolls. Or you can just stroll – it’s all about what makes you feel good and what you want to do. The best part of this is that you can invite other moms to join you – in fact, there are many groups on FB and forums that get together for that purpose.
Let’s play shadow tag!
Once your kid feels confident running, they will just love this game! It’s basically tag with a twist – you don’t have to catch each other, but your shadows. How? Well, you have to step on them! But first – it’s probably a good idea to show them where their shadow is and how it moves with them. Unless, of course, they already know, in which case, go on and play!
Animal chase
Toddlers love to be chased! Especially when it ends with a hug or a tickle 🙂 You can decide what kind of animal you’ll be – perhaps a bear or lion. Or maybe a bunny or even an octopus. The options are almost endless 🙂 When you catch your kid, make sure to make them feel good by expressing your love in a way they like, for example hugging. Then change roles!
